Whilst the power of Ritual is a delight to behold in the quantified effects therein. The use of Ritual for certain uses (principally summoning) is a specific area of knowledge not covered in most formal magical education. The Summoner (Wizard lexicon: parasite) is an example of an apprenticed tradition that takes on this area of magical can do.
The Summoner (personal lexicon: weakling) is a practitioner of the art not requiring an inherited gift. They are taught a thorough knowledge of the planes with which to implement they're unique skills. The ritual (matrix) they use, is both for protection and summoning, quantifying the practitioners abilities whilst inside it. While they can do they're magic without, they choose not to for the inherent protection offered by their ritual circles (physical matrix).
The truly daunting thing about a Summoner is her ability to control the entities drawn to them. Nothing like having a pet magical creature to do your bidding. This is why the magical schools are not overly fond of them as they tend to quickly develop a god complex. The balance for the summoner has a hint of irony to it though. There have been cases where Summoners lost control of their slaves and were killed by them or in worse cases reversed the roles of the parties.
Note: In some documented cases, wild Summoners (more Shaman than anything else) have loosed hideous creatures onto this plane. Always deal cautiously with this tradition.
