We've already discussed the Wizards Battle garnering the how and why of it. But we have not explored the where of it. Some of you may already have gleaned the direction of this discussion from these few words, but others amongst you will continue to wallow in the fudge... Of the ordinary.

The Wizards Battle explores an event outside of reality. That is certain, but it raises a question. Where is this taking place. Let us suppose. If I were a participant in a battle then I may perceive that the battle takes place in my mind... But does that mean my enemy is in my mind? By the same token does it also entail that the enemy perceives the battle in his own mind taking place in his mind?

Here indeed is a conundrum. Two participants in an event, perceptions showing differing locations for the event... Does that battle actually take place?
Yes. Otherwise did you just dream all those dead people as a consequence of the event...
The Battle takes place in what Wizards like to call a construct.

A construct is a creation of the perceiver with which to comprehend something or do something. It has permutations tied to the planes of existence. Though the tangibility of it is beyond these meat shells we wear. It is the realm of the mind and many Wizards believe it is also the foundation of Psionic ability.
A master of partitioning is able to utilise constructs with ease because they are actually building constructs to maintain partitions. The sustained spell takes on its own existence [limited], and this exists in the construct. A Mage globe could not exist without the construct. For within resides the intelligence directing effects. Some Wizards say that constructs may even take on some form of limited life of their own after they've been abandoned by their creators if enough residual energy resides in the local causing random elemental effects (Background Magic effect).

There is another use of a construct, though not useful to any other than a Magic user skilled in the creation of constructs. We've discussed previously the enchanting principle and sustained spells. Now with that knowledge lets move into the related and similar field of Thaumaturgy.
Within certain elements there exist properties that enable reactions when conditions are met. For example Naphtha...

Naphtha + Heat = Fire

Which can be further explained by this theory for why fire exists...

Phlogiston density + Heat = Fire

We know that Naphtha as a substance has a higher phlogiston density than Rock which is why Naphtha burns alot more easily. But this also is true for magical energies like fire. A physical element can be a focus for magical energies akin to the anchor a Wizard or Artificer utilises in their enchanting matrix. Now this is far easier for somebody of another tradition to try to attempt rather than try to tackle the Enchanting Matrix. If you are not of the Wizardly tradition, it would be truly daunting. Only they receive the appropriate education needed to attempt this safely.
So we know that certain substance' can be used to shortcut the enchanting matrix. But the how is the not so easy. Lets look at a substance known to posses these qualities. A diamond. A raw diamond has certain properties that make it easy for the "anchoring effect" of a sustained spell. Being that it has an ordered make-up to it (similar to the basic matrix in theory). With the right "polishing" (being in principle something akin to cleaning the substance of impurities) one can create a construct within the substance to act as an anchor drawing on energies to sustain and house a spell matrix for a limited time. A "unsustained" sustained spell effect.

In the right hands, these true substances (referred to as "quickened") can be used to hold sustained spells (referred to as "quickening" a spell). So it is not unusual to see a bejewelled Magic user upon occasion. Indeed be wary of their ability.
